With the 2012 summer season only weeks away, make sure to check back often to see what 'cool' activities S51 is up to. We have several trips planned for November followed by the arrival of the SA Agulhas II in Antarctica in December and then more take-over madness in January and February...

Meanwhile, you can check out what we have been up to in our new Newsletter Vol 7.

Fancy over-wintering in Antarctica? Make sure you read my Survival Guide for lots of useful tips.

Thanks for the guide, it's very useful. Hopefully next year I'll get to use it.

Hi, Jon. Sorry I have not responded sooner. Not just a question of being able to say 'next month' you can expect visitors to relieve cabin fever. We were off line for most of October/beginning November due to massive ongoing rain and floods in the Eastern Cape, in which many people lost everything. Did your weather fundis get any advance warning of this ? Laughed so at your 'cook out in the cold' !. Was I supposed to ? Also your 'Survival' advice was so interesting, as indeed were all your colleagues contributions. What more can I say, except 'vasbyt - min dae' to you all, with all best wishes.

Hi Jon. Wow your survival guide was an interesting read. I am so amazed at how much you have to do prior to the journey. It is not just the time spent that is so vital but the time spent trying to find sponsors and sorting out your things. I am so glad to see that the list of wish I had brought was smaller than the list of glad to have brought along. I am humbled by the tasks that your team have successfully conquered in your time there and can't wait to see all your pictures and hear about all your stories when you get back. Not long now!
